The HydrogenReference Electrode is the reference electrode of first choice formonitoring electrochemical potentials conforming to standards. Only hydrogenelectrodes are measuring directly the activity of hydrogen ions. This hydrogenelectrode HydroFlex is made of PTFE. This hydrogen electrode is as small as apencil and thereby very handy. The total length is 12 cm only. The rod has adiameter of  8 mm. By activation of the hydrogen evolution in the head ofthe electrode (cartridge) the production of hydrogen begins. The gas fills thePTFE-tube and flows out through the platinum/palladium electrode.

The voltage drop canbe measured at the golden socket at the electrode’s head.Your measurement devices should have an impedance of 5 MOhm and more. This hydrogen reference has a low resistance – you can use unshielded cables.
This hydrogen electrode can be used up to temperatures of 210°C – as long asonly the PTFE-Tube is submitted this temperature.
The advantages of this practicable hydrogen reference electrode  areobvious. An internal hydrogen source (cartridge) – easy to replace delivershydrogen for the electrode. The hydrogen electrode has no inner electrolyte andtherefore, no Iionic outlet and no diffusion potentials. There is noelectrolyte to refill – low maintance. The hydrogen electrode doesn’t containtoxic heavy metals. HydroFlex is made for use in concentrated fluoridecontaining media because it’s made of PTFE. It  works very well in highlyconcentrated alkaline and acidic media (pH -2 up to pH 16)
